How to use TrueClot®

TrueClot® may be pumped into a wound packing task trainer, through a medical manikin simulator or mixed with our Clotting Solution to create instant clots for moulage and live action simulation.

TrueClot® Task Trainers, Blood Simulant and Simulated Hemostatic Gauze are a great addition to your TCCC, TECC, B-CON or other casualty care courses that require realistic wound packing training.  We have assisted with several training courses and can help you decide which TrueClot® products will work best for your needs.  Contact us at to discuss your training needs.

Task Trainer/Simulator Use

If you are using one of our TrueClot® Task Trainers or other similar products simply fill the squeeze bottle or reservoir with TrueClot® Blood Simulant (either pre-mixed or made from our Concentrate) and squeeze the bottle or use a moulage, peristaltic or other liquid pump to fill the wound with simulated blood. Pack the wound with our TrueClot® Simulated Hemostatic Gauze using proper wound packing techniques while continuing to flow TrueClot® Blood Simulant into the wound. Simulated clots will form within 30-60 seconds. Wound packing and simulated clot formation is demonstrated in this YouTube video.  When properly packed simulated clots will form on the surface of the gauze causing Blood Simulant flow to slow and stop.

To clean the Task Trainer rinse with water until all clots are removed.  Fill the squeeze bottle with water and flush the tubing and one way valve until clean.  Thoroughly dry tubing and Task Trainer before storage.

 Instant Moulage Clots

To make instant simulated clots for moulage, mix TrueClot® Blood Simulant in a 5:1 ratio with our Clotting Solution. Mix the two solutions together in a dish or tube and simulated clots will form rapidly. This is demonstrated in this portion of our YouTube video. Simulated clots may be placed on live actors, manikins or on other simulators to increase the realism of your simulation. A 500ml bottle of our Clotting Solution is sold separately and will provide enough liquid to clot approximately one gallon of TrueClot Blood Simulant.

Tissue Simulation

Although TrueClot® Blood Simulant was not originally designed to be used to simulate tissue, some of our customers have found that if you create a large simulated clot using our Clotting Solution and then squeeze some of the liquid from the clot while pulling it apart, a stringy, muscle or fascia-like tissue simulation can be formed. When used in conjunction with flowing blood and simulated clots, a very realistic avulsed tissue simulation can be achieved.
